Jay Gaither Lets Woman Whom Brutally Beat Her Child Go

I posted yesterday about Jay Gaither cutting deals for violent offenders and those whom put the public into harms way, and children. Well, today, Jay is allowing a woman whom brutally beat her child go free. This is utterly irresponsible from our district attorney. Again, unlike Jay Gaither's web site you do not get news sourced by "hear say" nor by analysis from a mentally ill druggie (coughcoughcoughDonnieYoungcoughcough), we actually source the news articles.

MORGANTON - The mother of a toddler who was taken to Carolinas Medical Center last week due to brain injuries has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

Alecia Danielle Nanney, 24, of 4734 Homestead Way, Glen Alpine is scheduled to appear in court May 28.

The warrant for Nanney's arrest said she, as the parent of the 23-month-old girl, allowed Cody Garrett Chadwell, 23, of 4734 Homestead Way, Glen Alpine "to inflict physical injury upon the child by beating the child with his fist."

The injury caused the child's brain to bleed and left bruises on 98 percent of her body, the warrant states.

Chadwell was charged May 10 with felony intentional child abuse-serious physical injury.

Sheriff's investigators said a deputy and Burke County Department of Social Services worker went to Chadwell and Nanney's residence May 8 to investigate a report of suspected child abuse. The deputy and social worker saw bruises on the toddler's face, arms, legs, back and throat.

Investigators said they suspect Chadwell had been spanking the toddler since May 2.

The father admitted to spanking the toddler too hard because he was stressed about pending court cases, detectives said.

The toddler was released from Carolinas Medical Center at the end of last week, detective Jody Price said. She is not in her parents' custody.
